I went with the cheapest chanter I could find for the simple fact that I had no idea if I could pick up the knack for playing it (having an exclusive musical background in strings). I guess if I knew better I could tell the difference between a chanter and a 0 chanter however, I find that price has absolutely nothing to do with learning finger placement. I’m sure you could get a better tone out of more expensive model, but it’s just for practice anyway. The wood is beautiful and well finished, the reed and body fit tightly together, I’m aggravating my wife and dog with it but I’m having fun.

Bought this for my 10 year old to learn to play. Reeds supplied had a good tone to them (which was surprising) but they don’t last as long as higher priced ones. Easy enough for him to play, but good enough for my husband (the long time piper) to play. Not important as far as quality… but it is very pretty too!

This product is great for a beginner who’s just beginning or just trying it out. I’d advice ordering some different reeds with it because the ones sent are free ones that aren’t meant to last.
