I picked this up mostly because of the low price point, without high hopes having been stung with the old "you get what you pay for" addage more than once. Happy to report that I was pleasantly surprised with how this turned out! First off, it’s roughly the size of a tablet, so should be able to slide into any gearbag right along side your laptop no problem. The fact that it already has the soundcard built in is amazing, due to the lack of space, but it works just fine. Setup took a little bit of figuring out, and I wasn’t that impressed with the documentation, but after some fiddling around, I figured out my settings and such (the Mixtrack Edge falls under the single soundcard setting, not with other controllers that have ASIO drivers, etc). The one major problem I had was, once I got it plugged in and selected, I was getting no sound via either the headphone port or speakers. A big head scratcher for sure, since everything seemed squared away, and the wave forms in Virtual DJ were running just fine (instead of locking up or stuttering as they can when there’s an audio problem). I use VDJ Pro with my full sized controllers (NS6, Dennon 3700s etc) and use a skin that doesn’t include the mix knobs, since I have them physically manifested. Once I switched back to the stock skin on VDJ, I noticed that the Edge had turned down ALL my gains and levels! Once I adjusted those, it worked perfectly. The faders are smooth, most of the controls are pretty intuitive, and once you get the search/browse feature figured out, you’re well on your way. The jogwheels take a littel getting used to, and while techincally you COULD scratch with it, it’s definitely never going to be your go-to device for doing so. Anyone used to doing so on ANY other controller will not be impressed to say the least. If you’re just looking to do some mixing, or working a gig like a wedding or a trivia night or something along those lines where all you need is a quick tactile way to search, mix and toss in some effects, or if you’re just looking to work with some music, set some cue points, figure out transitions and that sort of thing (especially in a limited space with minimal equipment) this is the gadget for you!

Vine Customer Review of Free Product (What’s this?)
I’m new at this stuff so this is the first DJ Controller I’ve tried, thus I haven’t anything to compare it to. That said, I’ll try and describe what this product is like.
The unit itself is nicely compact – thin, feels sturdy, and has an attached cover that doubles as a non-skid base by folding it under the controller. The panel is brushed aluminum; the jog wheels/platters are metal and have a solid feel to them. Buttons are plastic, as are the dials and sliders. The tone and volume controls feel flimsy and don’t move that easily. Virtual DJ LE software is provided with the machine. It installed quickly and without any problems on my computer using Windows 7, and interfaces cleanly with the controller. The two communicate with each other via a USB cable. One thing I noticed is that the headphone volume is quite low, even with the knob turned up all the way. That’s probably due to the power coming solely from the USB port, so if you are using inefficient, hard-to-drive headphones you may encounter this same problem. The speaker volume is of course dependent on the speakers you use but I’m thinking in a loud environment it would be hard to hear what’s coming through the headphones. Operations-wise, the Mixtrack Edge does what the product description and manual says it does. Browsing for songs and selecting them is pretty easy, as is getting them cued up and playing. The effects and samples work as intended, as do the scratch and pitch bend features. Being new to all of this, it took me a while to get used to using this board and figuring out how to get the effect I wanted but it’s a matter of just working with it and pretty soon it becomes habit without having to think too much about it. I’m still getting used to things but it’s a fun product to play with and it has a good selection of features and effects, certainly enough to put on a good show. The controls and buttons are responsive and it integrates very well with the included software. I like how compact it is, too. 0

Didn’t purchase this here because I found it for at a different store. It was a father’s day sale. I took it out and connected it to my powered speaker and headphones with ease when I was using Virtual DJ LE. When I try to use it with my Serato DJ program (I also have the DDJ SX) it doesn’t want to work….this can be a Serato issue which is why I still gave it 4 stars…other than that this thing works just like it says it does and for all of you skeptics…this thing will amaze you with how portable it is and what it is capable of doing (this is based off of how it worked with VDJ). Once i get this thing to work with Serato I will be in heaven. I wont be taking my Pioneer DDJ SX with me to small gigs or little get together’s anymore unless I will be needing to get a little more creative :-). My point is this will be perfect to start, practice, travel, small gigs etc. but you won’t be able to do what you can with more expensive controllers.
