The clay construction of LP Udu Drums is based upon centuries-old African traditions. The name “Udu” has been derived from the Nigerian Ibo language, meaning “pottery”. Each LP Udu Drum offers individual tonal values. They can be played by hitting any part of the drum with the palm of the hand or the finger tips. The textured surfaces provide additional tonal variations by creating rubbing sounds.

I really like this udu because of all of the tone possibilities between the two chambers. The upper chamber has a very articulate high pitch when struck with the fingers and a dry bass tone. The lower chamber’s bass tone is similar to what one can get with more traditional LP udus—very wet and low. Both chambers have putty-plugged holes so that they can be mic’ed. Many thanks to LP for another awesome product!

Arrived quickly, Packaging was quite adequate-no scratching or dings and the putty plugs stayed in place. It sits comfortably on my lap, but is also pretty easy to play when set on its stability ring. I think the product description including that “it sounds like a doumbek” is a bit much. One would need fingers of iron to produce doumbek/darbuka-style ‘tek’s (edge tones). The bass tones at both ends are fun and varied. It plays reasonably fast but might be more suited to sedate tempos.
Great product! 0

this drum is great for practicing without driving your loved ones and neighbors and neighboorhood crazy. It will rarely get above talking volume. it has a really smooth bass sound when you hit one covering an entire hole. doing a flam slap on the side makes a nice pop noise. so far I’ve been able to fit it to all music (whether or not thats udu style… I dont care, i’m having fun!)
drum arrived way ahead of schedule and it arrived undamaged. even comes with a cute little stand! 0 |
