You ever been to a kanikapila? Kanikapila means “let’s play music,” and it is one top tradition of max importance in Kohala and all over Hawaii. At kanikapila, all da bruddahs and sistahs get together wit da friends, da food and da ukuleles. We get singing and grooving and dancing and strumming and telling talk stories to de max until the sun comes up. The kanikapila is the ultimate Hawaiian party. Wit dis pack, ho brah!, it’s practically a kanikapila in a box! You get everyting you need to keep ‘em grooving ‘til the sun rise high. We start with the Kohala KP. The KP is the Kohala uke calibrated for maximum partying. Keep an eye on anyone holding this model because dey might just jump off the roof into the pool or start a game of truth or dare with your cousin. To temper the wild attitude of our KP uke, we throw in one tuner to keep it in line, one bag to keep it in place, and one instruction book to get’em groovin. Wit all o’ dis, you’re ready for a kalikapila on day one my bruddah!

This review is from: Kohala KP-C Kanikapila Concert Ukulele (Electronics)
So, I began guitar this year, and because I am really enjoying guitar, I decided I’d get the guitar’s cousin, the ukulele for my 8 year old brother. I got this exact set from bestbuy.com (I know, best place to get ukuleles right? 😛 ) and out of the box, after a bit of tuning I got it set up and played a few chords. For the price, this is a VERY nice ukulele and I managed to get pretty decent sound out of it. Look up Jake Shimabukuro on Youtube, he has some of the best fingerpicked ukulele songs that sound incredible. I started learning While My Ukulele Gently Weeps, and it sounds surprisingly incredible on so humble an instrument. I plan to get new strings because people say that will improve the sound quality and sustain, but for now, I am more than content with such an awesome instrument. I would definitely recommend this to anyone at this price point!

This review is from: Kohala KP-S Kanikapila Soprano Ukulele (Electronics)
I was really looking forward to this ukulele. I have been playing the ukulele for several years, and I also play the guitar, the violin, and the string bass. My daughter has a Kohala concert uke, and the sound is mellow and lovely. Unfortunately, the soprano uke I received was not in tune with itself. After tuning all the strings until they each held their pitch, the chords themselves were not in tune. Playing an E on the C string did not match the correct pitch of the E string, for example. This made all the chords sound awful, even though the open strings themselves were in tune. I was sad to have to return it.

This review is from: Kohala KP-T Kanikapila Tenor Ukulele (Electronics)
The Kohala KP-T Kanikapila Tenor Ukulele sounds and looks great. I ordered one in May and it had a defective fret board. I’m not sure what exactly was wrong with it but the guy at a music store said it can’t be fixed and needs to be returned. Luckily Amazon made it easy to return my package with no questions asked. I got a full refund and purchased another one. The new one was in perfect condition and I’m glad I bought it. The tuner is annoyingly accurate and the bag is a great thing to have.
