Yup, you read that price correctly. What you’ve got here is a 100% DW drum shell handcrafted in Ensenada, Mexico. The shell is built using a proprietary design that merges eight total plies of hand-selected North American Hard Rock Maple arranged in horizontal, vertical, and diagonal plies, giving the Performance Series superb strength and thick tone. Much of what the world has come to expect from a DW kit is here, including beautiful lacquered finishes, STM (Suspension Tom Mounts), and premium hardware. Get a genuine DW kit at an amazing price with the Performance Series! This is a 5.5″ x 14″ DW Performance Series snare drum.

This review is from: DW Performance Series Snare Drum 5.5×14 Natural Lacquer
I bought a performance series snare on eBay to go with my PDP Concept Maple kit. Now, DW’s Performance Series drums used to be made in Mexico, but moved back to California sometime around late 2011-2012. The picture of the snare on this page with the dual turret lugs is the Mexican-made snare. American made snares have the single quarter-sized lugs. I found the snare to be absolutely fantastic. The snare’s inner shell is lacquered with polyurethane. The bearing edges are amazing, and looking at the bearing edges at the ten plies, you can see that each of the plies are beautiful. Some snares you look at, you’ll see that some of the center plies are dark, dead-looking. Not the case here. The sound is great, too. I like my snare a little dry sounding with very little overtones, so I put an Evans 300 Snare Side under an Evans Genera Dry. The sound is just phenomenal. Very impressed with the detail and sound of this snare. It’s well worth the money.
