All the reviews on this amp were for guitars. So I took a gamble on purchasing this for my violin. And…
I love it! Its cute. And a little bigger than I thought. Quite solid too, even if it made out of plastic. Sound wise, very nice, and warm sounding for my violin. I highly recommend this amp, for others who have an electric violin, and who are looking for a starter amplifier. So… Thanks a lot Danelectro for such a cute amp! And good luck to whomever is browsing. P.S. Recommend getting the ac adapter. 0

Updated November 1, 2011: Well now my “good” Honeytone amp has developed the same issues as the two that were bad out of the box. It mutes momentarily on every strum. This is a real shame because I like the amp, but the speaker is useless when this happens. Others have the same complaint (see the one star reviews on different colors of this model) so this must be a common problem, as I am 3 for 3 getting defective units. At least the Danelectro DH1 Hodad Mini Amp amp I got to replace the other two defective units still works!
Original review: I liked this convenient little amp so much that a couple days after it arrived (for use at work with headphones) I ordered a yellow one for practice at home where I could use the speaker. Unfortunately, right out of the box it had the fade in and out sound when using the speaker that other reviewers mentioned on the other product page (see the one star reviews for Danelectro N10A Honey Tone Mini Amp in Aqua ). This happened using battery power or the DC adapter. At first I thought my cord might be bad. So I checked this by using another cord and then another guitar. Nope, the problem was with the amp. So I returned the yellow one for a refund and ordered a black one to replace it hoping that the different color might come from a different production batch and might be better quality like my first amp. But it had the same issue, just not as severely as the yellow one. It mutes for about half a second on the initial attack on the strings, but not on subsequent strums as long as it was producing sound. The yellow amp muted momentarily on almost every strum. I also was disappointed that the second and third amps sounded much muddier than the first amp. To test this I played both black amps side-by-side on the exact same settings; half volume, half tone, zero overdrive. The one that has the fading out issue was much more distorted (in a bad way). While not perfect, the first one I bought offers a clean sound the other amps could not replicate. In my experience there was no consistency in sound from same models and two out of three were defective. After the third one was sent back I tried the Danelectro DH1 Hodad Mini Amp hoping the extra nine bucks would mean better quality. But the on/off switch did not work properly, so it has quality issues as well. When I did get it to power up I preferred the sound on the Hodad and it also has a reverb effect as a bonus, but no belt clip. 0

![]() Can’t go wrong with this one,

In my opinion…This is the best amp in this category. I know people who have the Marshall and the Fender. I plugged into my little HoneyTone and I had the best sounding micro amp hands down. They were both amazed with the sound. They said “well mine was only and “mine was only .” Too bad for them. I told them mine was since it doesn’t say Marshall or Fender, I only had to pay 1/2 for a better sounding amp. If you are looking for an amp with 1 or 2 watts, and know what to expect from a micro, this amp does not disappoint
UPDATE 2014: This little amp is still going strong. And it’s not because it hasn’t gotten used! It’s just so handy when I only have a few minutes to play 0 |
